The ultimate in comfort. The gown is in the traditional Cambridge style and made in a lightweight wool fabric which is highly resistant to crushing and has a nice 'swirl' about it. The back yoke and tops of the sleeves are hand-pleated, the pleats are looser and gently rounded which makes the gown more comfortable to wear and gives it a softer feel. Satin facings are attached to the front, with 75mm of Scarlet and 25mm Gold. There are tapes hanging down the inside to help secure the gown and hold it in place. It hangs to mid-calf length. Attached to the front of the gown are satin facings, with width and colour according to the discipline of the degree. The illustration shows a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
