The gown is in the traditional Cambridge Master's style and made in a 100% easy-care polyester which is very resistant to crushing. The back yoke and tops of the sleeves are tightly machine-pleated and there are tapes hanging down the inside to help secure the gown and hold it in place. It hangs to mid-calf length. Attached to the front of the gown are satin facings, with width and colour according to the discipline of the degree. The illustration shows a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
