The gown is in the traditional Cambridge style and made in a 65/35% high quality polyester/viscose fabric which needs little maintenence. It is the same as the Standard gown except that the back yoke and tops of the sleeves are hand-pleated, the pleats are looser and gently rounded which gives the gown a softer feel and more comfortable to wear. There are tapes hanging down the inside to help secure the gown and hold it in place. It hangs to mid-calf length. Attached to the front of the gown are satin facings, with width and colour according to the discipline of the degree. The illustration shows a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
